How-to-Measure:
It is important for us to point out that Dress Code Formal (DCF) cannot be held responsible for errors in the size ordered or measuring done. You are responsible for taking correct measurements. If you have any questions about which sizes to order based on the measurements you have taken, our customer service agents will be more than happy to help you. However, we are not responsible if your measurements are inaccurate or for the size you ultimately decide to purchase.
| * | It can be difficult to measure yourself, therefore we suggest you have a friend or family member take your measurements for the best results. | |
| * | It is recommended that while taking measurements you wear the exact, or similar, shoes and undergarments that you will be wearing on the day of your event. This is particularly important if you are planning to wear heels or a push up bra. | |
| * | Our full-length bridesmaid dresses are made with a 59" hollow-to-hem measurement. This is the ideal length for women 5'8" or under (with heels). We do offer extra length on our special-order bridesmaid dresses. Our full-length evening gowns are made with a 61" hollow-to-hem length. This is the ideal length for women 5'10 or under (with heels). | |
| * | Always remember that it is easier and less expensive to alter a dress in that is too large than to fix a dress that is too small. | |
| * | DCF uses the English Standard System for all sizes and measurements. | |
A. Measuring your Bust
Stand up straight with your feet together and your arms at your sides.
Position the measuring tape so that it covers the fullest part of your bust and the widest part of your back.
Do not pull tight! You should be able to fit your thumb behind the tape with no problem.
B. Measuring your Waist
Finding your natural waist is easy. Just stand up straight and bend to the side. Where your torso bends is your natural waist. You may want to take mark off on both sides of your body where your natural waist is.
To measure your natural waist, stand straight up, with your feet together and place the measuring tape around your natural waist.
Again, remember not to pull tight! There should always be about 1-2" of slack between you and your dress for the best fit.
C. Measuring your Hips
Stand up straight, with your feet together and position the measuring tape around the fullest part of your hips. This is usually 7-8" below the natural waist, but could vary depending on your body shape and height.
Again, do not pull the measuring tape tight! This is very important on the hip measurement! If the dress is too tight in the hips, you will not be able to sit.
D. Measuring Hollow-to-hem
Standing up straight with your feet together, measure from just below the hollow of your neck to your desired hem.
If you are not sure if you did this correctly or you think your measurement is askew, you can double-check by measuring in two steps:
* Measure from just below the hollow of your neck to your natural waist. Take note of the measurement.
* Next, measure from your natural waist to your desired hem. Take note of the measurement and add to the hollow-to-waist measurement.
If the sum of these two measurements equals your original measurement, you have measured accurately. If the sum does not equal your original, repeat all three steps until you are confident you have gotten an accurate measurement.
IF YOU DON'T HAVE A MEASURING TAPE:
If you do not have measuring tape and you do not know where to get one, you can easily measure yourself with a string and ruler. If you are using a shoelace or any string that stretches, make sure it does not stretch while you are taking the measurements.
| * | Tie a knot on the end of a string. This is your start measuring point. | |
| * | Use the string to measure your bust, waist and hips as indicated above and mark on the string (with a pen or marker) where it meets with the knot. | |
Now, with your ruler, put the knot on the 0 inch mark of the ruler and measure up to your pen mark. This is your measurement. Again, make sure you don't stretch your strings when you are taking your measurement or when you measure the string with the ruler.
