Style Code 1: Hide figure flaws

When shopping for an evening gown, bridesmaid gown, bridal gown, special occasion dress, or anything for that matter, it is important to understand your figure and ways to enhance the features you like about it. Read on for some tips from Dress Code Formal's (DCF) design team.

If you are trying to hide a tummy, try looking for a bridesmaid dress or evening gown style that does not draw the eye to your waist. Empire waistlines, waistlines that sit at the top of your ribcage, right below your bust with skirts that flare out slightly, do wonders for hiding a less than perfect tummy. Also, try to look for styles that draw the attention to your face, like one-shoulder styles or square-neck halters and don't be afraid to try to accessorize and wear earrings or necklaces that help keep the attention on your gorgeous face. Dress Code Formal (DCF) offers many different styles of bridesmaid dresses, evening gowns, special occasion dresses and accessories for you to choose from and they are all designed with the female figure in mind. There is boning and other supportive construction in all of DCF's gowns, which help control your silhouette and make you feel like you have nothing to hide!

When trying to hide your hips, it is best to look for a bridesmaid dress or evening gown with an A-line skirt. Also, if you choose a style that has a band or sash at the natural waist it will help to draw the focus to your middle. Check out some of DCF's chiffon dresses with charmeuse accents at the waist. Don't forget that you can always customize a look that you may like, which doesn't completely flatter your style by using the spaghetti straps and shawls that come with most of our dresses, by cutting the hem, or by choosing the right accessories. See our accessory section for some ideas.

Whether you are blessed with a fuller bust or have a slightly wider back, there are ways to divert the attention away from that area to create the perfect hourglass silhouette for a special occasion. The goal is to draw an equal amount of attention to the bottom half of your body, so the final result is the perfect hourglass. Dress Code Formal's design team suggests you steer clear of bridesmaid dress or evening gown styles with waists. Waistbands tend to cut your body in half and keep the attention in your top half. Try out a strapless style with a straight neckline, and a mermaid (or trumpet) skirt. You can also pull try some delicate draping on top with a slimmer straight skirt. Just don't forget to customize the look and be creative!
